After my disappointing experience with a cell tray from Johnny’s, I purchased several different types of new cell trays.
This one is produced by Bootstrap Farmers, and it’s designed to aid plants by air pruning their roots, a method intended to prevent root bounding.
The tray is made from high-quality plastic, and I anticipate it can be used over and over, possibly for an extensive period.
I haven’t examined the roots of these plugs, but they all seem healthy at the moment. Some of the plants are ready to be moved outdoors, but many of these plants must wait until mid-April to make that transition. Given the small size of each cell, they may run out of space to grow and deplete their nutrients. If this happens, I will need to introduce some liquid fertilizer to sustain them until they can be moved outdoors.
