Reintroducing Bees

Reintroducing Bees

Last year, I unintentionally killed all of the bees. I ordered bees from Belmont Feed, my go-to local chicken feed store, and unfortunately, they all died within a few days. I’m unsure if it was due to the sudden cold weather or if they were Italian bees shipped from California.

Perhaps, with more experience as a beekeeper, I could have kept them alive, but I am still learning.

This time, I’m hopeful that I can successfully maintain the bees. They are local bees from Illinois, and I personally picked them up today. The beekeeper mentioned that they are a mixed breed of Minnesota Hygiene and Italian bees. I have prepared the hive with frames and enticing lemon glass oil to attract them. Hopefully, they will move in tomorrow!

I also came across a helpful video by Alex, the person I purchased the bees from. I should definitely apply similar wrapping techniques for the winter.
